Tony James, Artist
Tony James is an acclaimed artist whose iconic visual imagery merges advanced digital technology with graphic design, painting, photography, and sculpture. Critics have called his work, ‘Digital Impressionism” because of his innovative and scintillating use of light and color as well as his highly evolved, atmospheric sense of mood. Using multi-layering painting and digital techniques, he achieves an emblematic visual language whose topography is chromatically rich and visually incandescent.
In addition to his own work, Tony James is a master printer and pre-press expert for some of today’s best-known contemporary artists such as Susan Kaprov, Ahmend Hatcher, and Sabrina Thorpe, producing editions that are represented in major museums worldwide.
Tony James received his BFA from the School of Visual Arts studying, and later becoming colleagues with such notables as Hannah Wilke, Richard Van Buren, Jennifer Bartlett, Louise Bourgeois and Barbara Segal. His many exhibitions include the Malcolm X Center in New York and the famous “Harlem Renaissance” show at Metropolitan Museum of Art. His primary artistic influences are Degas, Renoir, VanGogh and several of today’s most outstanding contemporary artists.
